22 days to cover 2200 nm - you can do the maths... No wind, light conditions and wind from the wrong direction made for a slow passage.
The last few days I lost count of how many other boats we saw tacking backwards and forwards trying to make some headway - I'm still not sure if this was reassuring or not? Everyone here in Horta is complaining about their long, slow and difficult passage, but hey, that's sailing!
The only other problem was the starboard inner top side stay failing. This resulted in us both going up the mast to rig some kind of repair using lines and blocks to keep some tension on the mast. Hmm, 2 Bavarias and 2 rigging failures; mere coincidence or are there other forces at work? Any input from other Bavaria's out there???
It's great to have finally reached Horta, but we are now looking forward to some better wind for the final leg to Portugal...
